Inspiration and Making: My version of a traditional ‘Chawan’ or Japanese tea bowl has brought me so much pleasure to create. Each piece is intuitively thrown on the Potter’s Wheel and I apply sticky slip to the outer walls creating a landscape of texture for you to enjoy exploring with your hands, while you drink your favourite beverage. Each piece is glazed with a traditional Shino glaze creating a cream and burnt orange colour and marked with my name ‘Sonya’ in Japanese Kanji on the base. After purchase, I will email you photos of the Chawans available so you can choose the perfect one!

Sustainability: Where possible, I once fire my vessels, meaning they have a lower carbon foot-print. I use green energy to run my electric kilns and enjoy pit firing when appropriate. Many of the clays I use are mindfully foraged from local areas and I also up-cycle discarded clays from local schools.
